Articolo - New York
Sited within a grand heritage space on Broadway with voluminous ceilings and a wall of windows overlooking the flatiron district, the new Articolo Studios showroom creates a series of separate spaces that showcase the full lighting collection.
One of the most striking features of the existing space was the grand circular columns that stand at over 13 feet. In response, Studio Goss created a series of freestanding walls that are designed to celebrate the adjacent round columns and highlight the height of the space. These curved block walls read as abstract sculptural elements that create a series of different zones for each product collection and provide additional wall space for the Articolo wall sconces. The new walls were carefully placed to frame a series of vignettes and create key ‘moments’ as you walk around the showroom that highlight key pieces of the collection. The rich character of the space is evident in layers of texture and heritage detail. In response, the new insertions were kept deliberately pared back and minimal. This creates a deliberate play between old and new, with a neutral white heritage backdrop offset against the textured clay finish of the new walls. This entry zone is rendered in a mid-grey paint finish to bring some further drama to the experience. Studio Goss also designed a series of bespoke furniture pieces for the space. The form of these objects reference the curvilinear form of the new walls, yet are crafted in stone, timber and metal, creating a link back to the materiality of the Articolo products. Across the street-facing windows, full-height linen curtains bring a layer of softness & texture to the showroom and further emphasise the vertical scale of the space.
