Armadillo – Sydney

The project encompasses a new retail showroom & head office for Australian ethical rug brand, Armadillo.

The previous space fit-out for the space was disjointed and visually cluttered so the design focused on paring things back to bring a sense of clarity to the internal volumes. This involved the careful adjustment of wall and ceiling linings to simplify key material junctions and the introduction of a new palette of natural materials and textured surfaces. Exaggerated, deep timber window reveals create a sense of depth across the new facade and introduce a warmer, more tactile threshold to the street. A heavy concrete bar sits against a dramatic double-height wall of hand-made ceramic tiles, acting as an anchor to space and providing a sense of activity at street level.
